Heat-Tolerant Tomato Varieties: Survive in Hot Dry Climates

Tomatoes are warm loving plants and they perform better if the temperature remains between 65°-85° F. But it will be difficult for you to grow tomatoes if you live in the southern part of the United States or other warm and dry regions where the temperature goes above 86°F.

Your tomatoes may face sunscalding; blight or other tomato problems due to extremely hot and dry weather conditions.

Don’t worry!!! Some heat-tolerant tomato varieties can beat the heat and produce a healthy harvest. So, let’s check out the list of the best heat-tolerant tomato varieties that can survive in hot and dry climates.

3 thoughts on “Heat-Tolerant Tomato Varieties: Survive in Hot Dry Climates

  1. John,
It is true that tomato plants will get diseases in the South, but we are very well known for growing them. Some of the newer varieties developed for heat are good, but generally do not seem to taste as good to me.
Rotation and safety in numbers is how I get more tomatoes than I can ever eat every year.
    P.S. I do garden organically.
    Enjoyed your article!

  2. Just found your site–planning for next year, both summer and fall gardens. Wanted to add that I grew Costoluto Genovese for several years in Blue Bell PA. It out-produced all other varieties in the extremely cold/wet summer of 2000 (when all other varieties were unproductive) but also in a very hot summer shortly on either side of 2000. I customarily grow about 60 tomato plants of different varieties. I have also grown Fiorentino, but don’t remember (and failed to take notes) anything spectacular about it. My money’s on Costoluto. I only stopped because the seed stores which I was patronizing weren’t carrying it.

  3. Enjoyed your article. Always seeking heat-tolerant tomatoes because I live in central Texas where summer temperatures often hover near 100. One variety you did not mention is Yellow Pear, which I find does very well in summer here.
